Spinal Infection (TB or Pyogenic infection)
Spine is one of the uncommon but not rare sites of infection in human body. Normally patient presents with severe and excruciating back pain, rest pain (pain even during taking bed rest), generalized symptoms like low-grade fever, weakness and weight loss. Infective process damages vertebrae; produces large amount of pus material and can cause spinal cord damage as well. This can end up in to paralysis of limbs. This condition jeopardizes spinal stability and neurological function. The main stay for spinal tuberculosis is medical treatment ,however surgical intervention may be required in following circumstances:
• Unstable spine due to destruction of vertebra
• Deterioratingneurology.
• Increasing size of abscess despite medical treatment.
• Bladder and bowel incontinence.
